Ms. Melvia Ray

Ms. Melvia Ann Ray, age 81, of Gaylesville, AL, died Monday, September 28, 2020, at her residence.

Ms. Ray was born January 20, 1939, in Cherokee County, AL, daughter of the late Thomas Alvin Edison Ray and Bonnie Estelle Ray.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed in textiles and as a nursery worker.  In addition to her parents, Ms. Ray was preceded in death by brothers, Glen Ray and Ben Ray; sisters, Lois Poorman and Gay Clements; granddaughters, Amanda Maxwell, Lela Slayton, and Christy Pittman; a grandson, Casey Hall; and son-in-law, Phillip Pittman.

Ms. Ray is survived by her son, Johnny Ray Slayton; daughters, Annette (John) Mason, Gaynell Pittman, Brenda (Sam) Hall, Mary (Tommy) Wilbanks; step-son, Carl Cochran; step-daughter, Diane Wood; sisters, Mary Schmitz and Tressie Young; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

No formal services and planned at this time.
