Ms. Elsie departed this life in Houston, TX, of natural causes. She was a native of Holland, Georgia, and a direct descendant of Charles Isaac Holland, a soldier in the Confederate States of America, and a granddaughter of Gilbert S. Holland, who represented Chattooga County for several terms in the Georgia Legislature, and her grandmother, Elsie Wallace Holland.
She is preceded in death by her father, Wallace Holland, and her mother, Edna Phillips Holland. Her father Wallace was in the United States Coast Guard, stationed at the Brooklyn Naval Yard, when he met and married Elsie's mother, Edna, in New York. Elsie was later born in New York City.
Elsie graduated from Middle Georgia College and studied at The University of Georgia. She worked as a junior accountant at various companies, including eight years with The International House of Pancakes, IHOP.
She spent several years in Florida and enjoyed water sports, especially water skiing. She took part in aquatic activities and was always at the top of the pyramid at the water ski show at Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, Florida.
Elsie spent the majority of her life in Georgia, and her last years in Texas.
She is survived by her brother, Phillip Alexander Holland and wife, Susan, of Houston; and Alexander's daughter, Lee Ann Holland Mayer and her children, Stephen Mayer, and Cynthia Mayer; and Cynthia's twins, Sarah and Caleb; and Alexander's son, Anthony Holland and wife, Desiree.
Elsie is also survived by her son, Conrad "Curt" Ross and her three grandchildren: Alexander, Andrew, and Rachael of Hamburg, New Jersey, who visited her in Houston, shortly before she died.
Memorial graveside services, with the burying of Elsie's ashes, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Holland Family Plot, in the Lyerly Cemetery, Lyerly, Georgia, with the Rev. Matthew Willingham officiating.
