Mr. Sammy Ballard Obituary

Mr. Sammy Douglas Ballard, age 72, of Menlo, GA, died Sunday, September 27, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Ballard was born March 26, 1948, in Trion, GA, son of the late Paul Eugene “Gene” Ballard and Darnelle Tucker Ballard.  He was a 1966 graduate of Chattooga High School and received his Mechanical Engineering Degree from Georgia Tech in 1971.  He co-owned and operated Ballard Builders with his brother, Tommy.  Mr. Ballard was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church – Menlo where he also served as Deacon and Song Leader.  He was a current member of the Chattooga County Board of Education, the Friends of Sloppy Floyd Lake Park, and served on the United Community Bank Board of Directors.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Hall Ballard; son, Scott (Nikki) Ballard; daughter, Kathy (Tony “Hoopie”) Cooper; brothers, Don (Betty) Ballard, Tommy (Siggie) Ballard; a sister, Ann Ballard Willis; and grandchildren, Braxton Ballard, Anaston Ballard, Isabella Cooper, Samuel Cooper, Daniel Cooper, and JohnLuke Cooper; special friends, Paul (Jeanette) Clayton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, October 2, 2020, at Faith Baptist Church – Menlo with Rev. Scott Quinn officiating.  Interment will follow in Alpine Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Jason Harris, Mark Ballard, Farrill Anderson, Avery Anderson, Vince Nazario, Jared Hosmer, Jeff Martin, and Ricky Sumner.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Members of Faith Baptist Church, Friends of Sloppy Floyd Lake Park, Members of the Chattooga County Board of Education, Jackie Simpson, Deb and Bobby Chisolm, Brenda Anderson, Glenda Hamilton, Butch Eleam, James Cole, Scott Tucker, Joe Reed, Billy Church, Dickie Chamless, Jimmy Hosmer, and Paul Clayton.

Mr. Ballard will be in state at Faith Baptist Church – Menlo and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour on Friday.

The Ballard family along with the staff of Mason Funeral Home remind anyone in attendance to keep in mind the current guidelines and restrictions set forth by the C.D.C. as it pertains to social gatherings including social distancing, gathering limits, and face masks.
