Mr. Melvin J. Jackson, Sr.,  age 65, of Summerville, GA, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Jackson was born March 13, 1958, in Summerville, GA, to the late Amos Carlton and Vinnie Elizabeth Huggins Jackson.  He was employed with the City of Summerville in the Water Department and was a member of the Chelsea Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing bass guitar at church, hunting and fishing.

Along with his parents, Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his sisters, Beverly Jackson, Mildred Miller, Martha Miller; and his brother, Ed Jackson.

Survivors include his children, Jesse and Christina Jackson, Jeremy and Shaunda Jackson, Lucas and Tiffany Jackson, Garth and Stephanie Gentry; brother, Carlton Jackson; sisters, Annie Culbert, Linda Jackson, Betty Broome, Joan Keef; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Jackson will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday January 17, 2024, at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Lemons and Rev. Larry Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Garrett Cemetery with James Rutledge, Steven Dodd, Carlton Jackson, Eddie Jackson, Samuel Rutledge, and Zach Rutledge serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Chelsea Baptist Church.

Mr. Jackson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the service hour on Wednesday.
