Mr. Larry Bennett Obituary

Mr. Larry Winston Bennett, age 77 of Summerville, GA, died Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Bennett was born December 8, 1942, in Trion, GA, son of the late John Frank and Allene McCollum Bennett. He was Baptist by faith, and prior to his retirement, had been employed with the Summerville Police Department where he had served as the Chief of Police. He had also worked at the Trion Police Department and the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Bennett was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he worked as a Military Policeman and was stationed in Washington, D.C.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Kay Greer Bennett; brother, Robert Bennett; sisters, Nancy Carolyn Culberson and Frankie Ann Bennett.

Survivors include his son, Darryl (Deanna Smith) Bennett; daughters, Paula Bennett, Beth (Daniel) Nixon; step-daughter, Christy (David) Petty; brothers, Joe Bennett, Johnny Bennett; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Due to the current health concerns for our community, visitation and graveside services for Mr. Bennett will be held privately for the immediate family only. Interment will also be held privately at West Hill Cemetery. Rev. Kevin J. Norton will officiate. Pallbearers will be Daniel Nixon, Austin Petty, David Petty, Fred Dowdy, Dennis Campbell, and Blake Campbell.
