Mr. James Randy Hurst, also known as “Joe Lucy” to family and “Hippie” to friends, age 59, of Henagar, AL, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021, at his home.
Randy was born December 19, 1961, in Fort Payne, AL, to Lindward and Kay Hurst, and was raised with love by his grandparents, Freddie and Ifdill Hurst. He spent most of his working years at Mount Vernon Mills in Trion, GA, before becoming disabled. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, rabbit hunting being his favorite. He would often let his beagles run just to hear them “sing.”
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Lindward Hurst; grandfather, Freddie Hurst; and grandmother, Ifdill Hurst.
Survivors include sons, James Randy Hurst, II, Anthony Harris; and daughter, Angela (Robert) Johnson; brothers, Andy (Karen) Hurst, Sandy (Peggy) Hurst, Lamar Hurst; sisters, Sissy and Donna; grandchildren, Grayson and Carson Hurst, Harlee and Cash Harris, Delle Harris, Abbie (Dakota) Lee, Garrett Sparks, Dawson Sparks, and Kaitlyn Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Kasyn Lee and Kinley Lee.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Russell officiating.
Mr. Hurst will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) until the hour of service on Thursday.
The Hurst family, along with the staff of Mason Funeral Home remind anyone in attendance to keep in mind the current guidelines and restrictions for the COVID pandemic set forth by the C.D.C. as it pertains to social gatherings limitations including social distancing, gathering limits, and face masks.
