Mr. Grady Ernest “G.E.” Schrader, Jr., age 80, of Trion, GA, died Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Schrader was born July 13, 1940, in Cloudland, GA, son of the late Grady Ernest Schrader, Sr. and Pearl Farmer Schrader. He was Baptist by faith and was retired from General Electric. Mr. Schrader was a member of the final class to graduate from Menlo High School where he was a star football player and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed.” He also attended Emory University where he received a full academic scholarship. Mr. Schrader was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was an avid farmer and could often be seen at Trade Day selling produce.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Schrader was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Bell McDonald; brothers, John Burton “Junior” Schrader, and John David “J.D.” Schrader.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Frances Guinn Schrader; sons, Jimmy Dale (Tausau) Westbrooks, Timmy (Sharon) Westbrooks, Grady Ernest (Melissa) Schrader, III; daughters, Brenda Westbrooks (Sonya Maples), Cynthia (Daniel) Schrader Key; brother, Leonard Calvin Schrader; grandchildren, Daniel Schrader, Emily Schrader, Bradlee Suggs, Cody Dixon, Joshua Dixon, Brady Key, Ethan Key, and Mandy (Cody) McGraw; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Schrader will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 3, 2021, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Robbie Eversole officiating. Interment will follow in Lyerly Cemetery with full military honors by the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 Honor Guard of the American Legion. Active pallbearers will be Mark Anthony Schrader, Joe Stephens, Michael Schrader, Lee Wilson, Mark Imes, and Daniel Key. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Schrader, Sr., Daniel Schrader, Bradlee Suggs, and Cody McGraw.
Mr. Schrader will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday.
