Mr. Alex Hosmer Obituary

The family of Alex Wyatt Hosmer is grief-stricken at his sudden passing on June 25, 2020. He was a man of vision and of many talents, and a friend to many and a stranger to few. He was an electrician by trade, but a farmer and entrepreneur at heart who loved his goats and dogs more than many people. It was often said that, “if Alex can’t fix it, it can’t be fixed.” He was known as a man of his word, quick-witted and always ready to help another. Alex hated crowds and Atlanta traffic, but loved his grandchildren, cold beer, and ice cream.

Born on February 17, 1956 in Menlo, Georgia, Alex knew that one could always learn more by listening to others than by talking. He spent many hours with friends doing just that, whether at the local hardware or auto parts store. Whether you knew him as Alex, Ig, IE, Mater Head, Goofy, Boompa, Hawk, or Homie, to know him was to love him.

Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Edith Hosmer. He is survived by his wife, Sally; brothers, Jimmy (and Carole) and Paul Hosmer; daughter, Jessica (and Jonathan) Hegwood; grandchildren, Elizabeth Cook and Jack Hegwood; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alex also leaves behind many, many special friends, who will miss him terribly. A special note of gratitude to the members of the Teloga Volunteer Fire Department, Redmond EMS, and neighbors Julie and Jimmy Pledger.

A memorial service to celebrate Alex’s life will be planned at a later time.  Until then, as a way to celebrate his life, on Saturday morning at 9:00 A.M., call your friends, help a neighbor, pet a dog, or eat some ice cream.

The family would like to request that in lieu of flowers, Alex’s memory be honored in taking a moment to enjoy life and help your fellow man. Contributions can also be made to Animal Advocates of Chattooga County (706-857-0679) in his name.
