Mr. Aaron Lum Stoner, age 85, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, April 30, 2020, at Pruitt Health – Shepherd Hills.
Mr. Stoner was born December 13, 1934, in Cloudland, GA, son of the late Peary J. and Kitty Massey Stoner. He was a faithful member of Foster Mill Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills. He was also a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Stoner had also worked with Trion City Schools in the Athletic Department and Gymnasium. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Hines Stoner; brothers, Melvin J. Stoner, Curtis Stoner; sisters, Sylvia Grogan, Bertha Gilmer, and Sue Hegwood; and nephews, Terry Stoner, Larry Stoner, and Duke Stoner.
Survivors include his caregivers, niece and nephew Larry and Johnnie Stoker; nieces, Dale Brown and Clara Trammell; nephews, Ricky Stoner, Todd Stoner, Dennis Hegwood, and Perry Hegwood; sisters-in-law, Vernice Stoner, Barbara Farrow, and Jean Allen; brother-in-law, Ronnie (Linda) Pettyjohn; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Due to the current health concerns for our community, visitation and funeral services for Mr. Stoner will be held privately for the immediate family only. Rev. Ronnie Pettyjohn and Rev. Terry Shores will officiate. Entombment will also be held privately at Greenhills Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Lamar Pettyjohn, Josh Brown, Tommy Stoner, Ricky Stoner, Jody Stoner, and Gage Stoker.
Per Mr. Stoner’s request, no food or flowers, and that contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
