Mrs. Callie Marie Slayton, age 78, of Trion, GA, died Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. Slayton was born January 8, 1945, in Centre, AL, daughter of the late J.C. Thomas and Violet Hunter.  She was a member of Old Way Baptist Church and had previously worked at Palmer's Farmers Market.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Slayton was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Charles Slayton; brother, Buck Hunter; sister, Mary Ann Wells; and great-grandchildren, JoAnna Grace Shafer, John David Shafer, and Sawyer Hunter Shafer.

Survivors include her son, Tommy Slayton; daughter, Tammy (Stanley) Shafer; grandchildren, Brandi Barr, Tyler Shafer, Brittany Slayton, Lacey Barr, Dylan Bryson, Cody Slayton, Kelby Slayton, and Callie C. Slayton; great-grandchildren, Zoey Slayton, Ryleigh Slayton, Kovin Slayton, Cason Gill, and Chip Shafer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Sunday, March 19, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sanford DeBerry officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Josh Abernathy, David Cochran, Bubba Gill, Cason Gill, Barry Rollins, and Danny Ogles.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Simpson, Rickey Simpson, Gordon Kinsey, and Mike Brenwald.

Mrs. Slayton will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Sunday.
