Mr. Nickey Lee Mayes, age 50, of Gaylesville, AL, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Mayes was born April 4, 1973, in Centre, AL, son of the late Billy Lee and Brenda Gail Crane Mayes.  He attended Damaris Baptist Church and prior to his retirement, was employed as a welder.

In addition to his parents, he was a preceded in death by grandparents, J.B. and Gurtie Sanford Crane, and Bernard and Lillian Ashley Mayes.

Survivors include his wife, Charity Abernathy Mayes; a daughter, Sabrina (Cody) Clontz; special brothers, Charles Abernathy, Michael Abernathy, Gary Abernathy, and Brent Abernathy; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Faye Abernathy; aunt, Virginia Patty; uncle, Richard Mayes; special cousins, Timmy Ray, Melissa Williams; grandchildren, Huntley Clontz, Hensley Clontz, Hartley Clontz, and Hadley Clontz.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (EST) Monday, May 8, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Michael Abernathy, Charles Abernathy, Gary Abernathy, Brent Abernathy, Curtis Abernathy, Timmy Ray, Zac Ray, and Austin Ray.

Mr. Mayes will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon (EST) until the hour of service on Monday.
