Obituary

Mr. Alfred Clayton Cox, age 98, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, August 5, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Cox was born June 29, 1923, in Tulsa, OK, son of the late Frank and Ruby Lee Mitchell Cox.  He was retired from Continental Can Company.  Mr. Cox was the oldest living World War II Veteran in Chattooga County, having served in the United States Navy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jewell Lawson Cox; a daughter, Judith Ann Wudell; and a step-son, Glenn Humphrey.

Survivors include his adopted daughter, Maxine Majors; daughter-in-law, Carolyne Humphrey; grandchildren, David and Sonia Humphrey; and great-grandchildren, Jessica and Robert Humphrey.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Alpine Cemetery with Mr. Charles Keen and Mr. Jimmy Bennett officiating.  Active pallbearers will be Terry Majors, Mason Majors, Malcolm Birge, Benton Birge, Lee Langston, and Brent Bentley.  Honorary pallbearers will be Joan Dubois, Opal Deering, Carolyn Hill, Judy Smith, Sheral Marsh, and Karen Crowe.

There will be no visitation.
