Rev. Junior Evans

Rev. Junior Evans, age 83, of Summerville, GA, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019, at his residence.

Rev. Evans was born June 29, 1935, in Lyerly, GA, son of the late Etter Evans.  He was retired from General Motors and was also a retired Pastor.  Rev. Evans was a member of the Ridgedale Unity Church of God and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  He was also a member of the National Chaplains’ Association, the U.A.W., Independent Ministries Association, Alpine Lodge # 211 F. & A.M., the National Rifle Association, the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows, and the American Legion.  He was also a former commander of the Royal Rangers and held an honorary Doctorate in Bible Theology.

In addition to his mother, Rev. Evans was preceded in death by his brothers, Dee Evans, James Evans, and L.D. Blackmon; sisters, Sarah Grant and Lillian Blackmon; grandson, Timothy Norton; and a great-granddaughter, Lexus Hays.

Rev. Evans is survived by his wife, Mildred Goss Evans; sons and daughter-in-law, Larry Evans, James and Stephania Evans; daughters, Patty Kent, Kathy Evans, and Hollie Evans; brothers, Johnny and Wanda Blackmon, James and Patsy Evans, Ed and Shirley Blackmon, and Beatrice Blackmon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah and Rick Grant, Lillian and Harper Blackmon; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Rev. Evans will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 28, 2019, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Matthew Evans and Rev. Jimmy Evans officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Active pallbearers will be Austin Kiser, Moses Norton, Michael McGee, Herman Stanfield, Thomas Norton, and Dawson Cummings.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Ridgedale Unity Church of God.

Rev. Evans will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday.
