Mrs. Virginia Jo (Hammond) Welch

Mrs. Virginia Jo Welch age 86, of Menlo, GA died Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at her residence.

Mrs. Welch was born December 3, 1932, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Kelly Valentine and Ruth Mae Key Hammond.  She was a member of the Menlo United Methodist Church where she had served as Secretary of Treasury and was a member of the church choir.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Wal-Mart as an Associate.  Mrs. Welch had also served on the Menlo City Council and tutored reading at Menlo Elementary School.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Welch.

Mrs. Welch is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James Mike and Robin L. Welch; daughter and son-in-law, Donna S. and Kim Grove; brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Trish Hammond; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Jimmy Curtis; grandchildren, Michelle LeAnn Cockerham, Misty Dawn Veas, Courtney Paige Cruz, Michael Coley, Marcus Welch, and Brian Welch; great-grandchildren, Hanah Ruth Cockerham, Chloe Rose Cockerham, Sophie Mae Cockerham, Joey Christopher Barajas, Joshua Renee Barajas, Brandon Nadler Veas, Fina Love Barajas, Kyrie Alexander Johnson, Isaiah Elias Lopez, Marissa Paige Partida, Aden Alexander Partido, and Ella Mariko Niino; and great-great-grandson, Luke Daniel James Cockerham; special friends, Jewell Hall, Patty Setoon, Donna Sentell, and Julie Willingham.

Funeral services for Mrs. Welch will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 16, 2019, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jody Brock officiating.  Interment will follow in Alpine Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Mike Welch, Taten Coley, Michael Coley, Harold Timmons, Jeff Coley, and Jeff Shavers.  Honorary pallbearers will be the member of Menlo Fire Department.

Mrs. Welch will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Saturday.
