Mrs. Lois Hammond Anderson, age 89, of Summerville, GA, passed away Friday, September 13, 2019, at her home, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Mrs. Anderson was born July 2, 1930, in Roanoke, AL, daughter of the late Milton and Etta Hammond. In the past, she was employed with Riegel Textile, the Glove Mill, and was a personal caregiver. She was a faithful member of Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center and had previously attended Trion Church of God and Summerville Church of God. She served as a Sunday School Teacher and taught many children.
Mrs. Anderson was a wonderful lady that cared for everyone. She was a prayer warrior for her children, grandchildren, and all the great-grandchildren, family, friends, and even strangers. Lois will leave a legacy of following Christ to many. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Carl Smith Anderson; a daughter, Linda Gail Nelson; daughter-in-law, Shirley Nelson; great-great-grandson, Conner Liam McGill; as well as 13 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by a son, Larry Nelson; a daughter, Terra (Marty) Turner Sweatman; grandchildren, Sissie (Tony) Dowdy, Bubba (Lisa) Browning, Todd Browning, Shon Burke, Adam (Erica) Nelson, Jon Turner, and Candace (Jamie) Henderson; 11 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl (Roberta) Hammond; a sister, Hazel Garnet; sisters-in-law, Brenda Anderson and Sandra Copeland; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Anderson will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, September 15, 2019, from the Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center with Pastor Andy Hutchins, Rev. Fred Mercer, & Rev. Gary Howell officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons and include Bubba Browning, Adam Nelson, Jon Turner, Kyle Shepard, Steve Cochran, and Carson Shepard. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ladies’ Sunday School Class of Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center.
Mrs. Anderson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Saturday, September 14, 2019. She will also be in state at Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center from 2:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Sunday.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to April Cochran for taking care of their mother and grandmother in her last moments; and also to Sheila King, Judy Lindsey, Joann Hughes, Pastor Andy and his wife, Brenda, Marlene and Pat, and their church family. Thank you for your prayers.
