Mr. Dewey "D.C." Mitchell, Jr.

Mr. Dewey Carl “D. C.” Mitchell, Jr., age 88, of Menlo, GA, died Thursday, April 12, 2018, at his residence.

Mr. Mitchell was born June 7, 1929, in Lyerly, GA, son of the late Dewey Carl and Susie Ann Rogers Mitchell.  He was a member of Menlo First Baptist Church where he was ordained as Deacon in 1973, and served as Chairman of the Deacons from 1977 – 2010.  He had also served as Sunday School Superintendent for numerous years.  Mr. Mitchell was also a founding member of the Menlo Lions’ Club, and prior to his retirement, worked as a supervisor with Bigelow-Sanford Carpet.  He was also a Corporal in the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Orlean Mitchell Miller and Betty Mitchell Powell; and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Brown.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Margaret “Jean” Mitchell; sons and daughters-in-law, David Carl and Marie Wilbanks Mitchell, Bobby Lee and Lee Ann Willingham Mitchell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Johnnie Mitchell, Malcolm and Carol Mitchell, Larry Lawrence and Linda Mitchell; sister, Ann Mitchell Brown; grandchildren, Aaron Mitchell, Katie Mitchell Thomas, Lee Mitchell, Allison Mitchell-Trask, and Russ Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Ansley Mitchell, Hall Mitchell, Logan Couch, Reed Couch, Luxlee Mitchell, Posey Mitchell, Motley Mitchell, and Lola Mitchell.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Mitchell will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, April 14, 2018, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Matt Hall officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Active pallbearers will be Malcom Birge, Lee Mitchell, Russ Mitchell, Aaron Mitchell, Logan Couch, and Reed Couch.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Menlo First Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class as well as Mr. Mitchell’s nephews.

Mr. Mitchell will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Saturday.
