Mr. Carl "Bud" Sumner, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Carl McKinley “Bud” Sumner, Jr., age 85, of Menlo, GA, died Monday, July 23, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Mr. Sumner was born November 14, 1932, in Menlo, GA, son of the late Carl Sr. and Eva Lema Jones Sumner.  He was a member and Deacon of Menlo First Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Georgia Rug Mill/Bigelow-Sanford and at Ballard Brothers Builders of Menlo.  Mr. Sumner was drafted by the United States Army in the Fall of 1952 and served active duty during the Korean War from 1953-1955.  After his honorable discharge, he served in the National Guard.  He had served as Deacon at Chelsea Baptist Church and was Choir Director for 40 years.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Virginia “Jenny” Copeland, Eloise Parker, JoAnn Crider, and Peggy Sue Ellenburg; and brothers, Elmer Eugene Sumner and Harold “Pete” Sumner.

Mr. Sumner is survived by his wife, Ima Jane Bailey Sumner; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Debbie Sumner; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and James Hughes, Susan and David Daffron, Kim Blalock, Michelle and Bert Hines; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Ralph and Opal Sumner; sister, Charlene “Red” Scoggins; 9 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Sumner will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 26, 2018, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Odom and Rev. Matt Hall officiating.  Interment will follow in AMI Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Christopher Daffron and Jesse Blalock; nephews, Jason Copeland and Randy Gilley; and great-grandsons, Mason Green and Jordan Mosley.  Honorary pallbearers will be graddaughters, Stacie Green, Kristie Booker, Lauren Southern, Emily Mitchell, Haylee Mitchell, and Katie Mitchell.

Mr. Sumner will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Thursday.
