Mr. Harold Gene Nix, age 80, of Lyerly, GA, passed away Saturday April 22, 2017, at Cartersville Medical Center.

Mr. Nix was born November 4, 1936, in Trion, GA, the son of the late Harold Offit and Ruby Dell Taylor Nix.  He was retired having worked with the Georgia State Patrol, Cobb County Police, Summerville Police Department, the Chattooga County Sheriff Department where he was Chief Deputy, and Hays Correctional Institute. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and was a U.S. Marine veteran having served in Korea.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Alexander Nix; and a sister, Kathryn Iris Langston.

Survivors include his children, Howard Lee Nix and Linda Distal, Ciba Lynn Bell and Frank (Buddy) Bell, Jr., Kathy Reynolds, Jennie Dell and Foye Renfroe; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday April 25, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Jamie Lee Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Active pallbearers will be Shannon Nix, Talley Pierce, Randy Jones, Glenn Pierce, Derek Reynolds, Luke Nix, and Mark Cooper. Honorary pallbearers, Cobb County Police, Summerville  Police, GSP, Chattooga County Sheriff Dept.  and HCI.

Mr. Nix will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday April 24, 2017.
